The Newcastle Harbour Swim is a historic and signature community event that showcases Newcastle’s active coastal lifestyle and attracts over 600 swimmers from across the region and interstate. With competitors aged 12-80 years, the event is inclusive, intergenerational, and proudly reflects our city’s identity as a healthy, connected, and vibrant coastal community. Swimmers can choose from two distances: a one way 700m swim or the full over-and-back 1.4km across the harbour.
Held by the Stockton Surf Life Saving Club, the swim raises vital funds for lifesaving equipment and education programs, directly contributing to community safety and resilience.
The Harbour Swim celebrates our working harbour – a unique asset – by activating the waterfront in a way that is environmentally sustainable and culturally respectful. With many participants and supporters travelling from outside the region, the event contributes to Newcastle’s visitor economy, supporting local hospitality, accommodation, and small business sectors on both sides of the harbour.
